Israeli strikes across Gaza killed civilians and destroyed medical warehouses, worsening the humanitarian crisis and threatening healthcare access.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepened on Saturday after a series of Israeli strikes killed at least four Palestinians and caused extensive damage to critical medical infrastructure. Among the most serious incidents was the destruction of medicine storage facilities located beside one of central Gaza’s most important hospitals, raising fresh concerns about the availability of lifesaving healthcare for thousands of civilians.
According to local health officials, separate air and drone strikes targeted multiple areas across the Gaza Strip. Two people were killed in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood after a drone strike hit the area. Several others suffered injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment.
In another incident, one person was reported killed in Deir el-Balah, while another civilian lost their life after a strike hit a tent shelter near a school in the al-Mawasi area, north of Khan Younis. Emergency teams responded quickly to the attacks as residents searched through damaged buildings and temporary shelters for survivors.
One of the most significant attacks struck medicine warehouses connected to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah. Health officials stated that two storage buildings were completely destroyed while two additional warehouses sustained severe structural damage. The facilities reportedly contained essential medical supplies, including intravenous fluids, dialysis equipment, intensive care medications, antibiotics, and emergency treatment materials.
The destruction of these warehouses is expected to place enormous pressure on Gaza’s already overwhelmed healthcare system. Hospitals throughout the territory have been operating under extremely difficult conditions due to ongoing shortages of medicine, fuel, medical equipment, and trained healthcare workers.
Health authorities strongly condemned the strike, describing it as a serious attack on civilian healthcare infrastructure. Officials warned that the loss of medical supplies could affect thousands of patients requiring emergency surgeries, dialysis treatment, intensive care, and other lifesaving services. They also appealed to the international community to help protect healthcare facilities and ensure uninterrupted access to humanitarian assistance.
Residents living near the hospital said nearby tents housing displaced families were also damaged during the strike. Several temporary shelters reportedly caught fire, forcing families who had already fled previous fighting to relocate once again. Many displaced people continue to face repeated displacement as military operations expand across different parts of Gaza.
Medical professionals emphasized that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital remains one of the few functioning hospitals capable of treating large numbers of patients in central Gaza. The facility has become increasingly important as damage to hospitals across the territory has reduced overall healthcare capacity during the prolonged conflict.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities stated that overnight operations targeted what they described as weapon storage sites used by Hamas. Military officials said several locations associated with militant infrastructure were struck during the operation, including one site near the hospital area.
Health officials also released updated casualty figures, reporting that several people were killed and dozens more injured across Gaza during the previous 48 hours. Hospitals continue to receive patients suffering from blast injuries, burns, and other trauma-related conditions while operating with limited resources.
Rescue teams also completed a large recovery operation in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, where a residential building had been destroyed approximately two weeks earlier. Emergency crews recovered the remains of more than one hundred victims, including many women and children. Officials overseeing the operation said many additional victims are still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
Recovery efforts have proven extremely difficult because collapsed concrete structures, twisted metal, and widespread destruction continue to slow search operations. Rescue workers noted that some remains were severely damaged, making identification challenging and prolonging the recovery process.
The latest violence comes just days after reports of a new diplomatic framework aimed at reducing hostilities and creating conditions for future negotiations. However, continued military operations have raised questions about whether the proposed roadmap can successfully lead to a lasting reduction in violence.
International humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that continued attacks on civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and medical supply facilities, significantly increase the suffering of civilians. They continue to call for greater protection of healthcare services, humanitarian access, and measures to reduce civilian casualties.
As fighting continues across the Gaza Strip, millions of residents remain dependent on limited humanitarian assistance while hospitals struggle to maintain essential services. With medical supplies becoming increasingly scarce and displacement continuing across the territory, the humanitarian situation remains one of the region’s most urgent challenges.
